time is money

The sooner you start erecting scaffold on site the better for you and the main contractor. Unfortunately, many scaffold design companies ask you to wait for 5-10 working days (or more) to complete the drawings.

But you cannot wait.

You need scaffold drawings and calculations done fast, with quality and for a fair price. You could solve the issue by having an in-house team of scaffold design engineers, but it would be very expensive. In addition, with your current workload, you’re afraid that they could spend days doing nothing.

Problem solved.

Welcome to

UK Temporary Works Design,
your in-house scaffold design team

Who is behind
UK Temporary Works Design?

Hi! I am Raul, a Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng MICE) with 22 years of experience in scaffold design and temporary works.

I obtained a MEng in Civil Engineering at the University of Granada (Spain). I also hold Masters in Health & Safety, and another in Project Management.

After 5 years as Design Manager at PHD Access, I’ve started my own business to provide quality scaffold designs with a very quick turnaround.

RAUL BANDERA

Managing Director at UK Temporary Works Design Ltd.

We provide scaffold designs and calculations with a very quick turnaround, so fast that we are the only scaffold designers in the UK with an

How did I get here?

2000

I start working with PERI, where I learn the foundations of temporary works.

2004

I start my own business in Malaga, Gabinete Técnico RB Ingeniería y Estructuras. I have a team of 4 engineers, and we do whatever the client wants: concrete structures, steel structures, scaffolding, formworks, inspections, reports, refurbishment, 3rd party checks…

2010

I train scaffolders in system scaffolding in Malaga. I teach 20 scaffolders each trimester for a total of 180 scaffolders after 3 years.

2012

I register a patent for a new anchor system for scaffolding. It takes 2 years to obtain the grant.

2013

The construction crisis devastates Spain. I close the business and lose everything.
I come to the UK with my family and start from scratch at PHD Access as a Design Engineer.

2016

I get promoted to Design Manager at PHD.

2021

I start UK Temporary Works Design Ltd. to provide quality scaffold designs with a very quick turnaround.

Why did you study Civil Engineering?

It was by accident as I wanted to be an aeroplane pilot. The private pilot licence was very expensive, so I tried to obtain the military licence. Unfortunately, I couldn’t join the Air Force academy due to my myopia, so I started civil engineering.

Any story about your engineering experience?

When I finished my degree, I had no idea what a scaffold or formwork were. I was lucky and my first job was with Peri.

I went from Malaga to Madrid for an interview, wearing a suit and a very cool briefcase just to impress. An old man was waiting for me with my name written on his notepad. He had decades of experience and no academic training.

I approached him, and he asked (I’ll never forget it): “Do you know what a formwork is?”

I looked at him very surprised because I thought it was a tricky question. I quickly realised that he was asking me very seriously, so I said: “I do not have a f**king clue what a formwork is”.

He started laughing and said: “I knew it”.

That’s how my temporary works experience started.

At that moment, I decided to learn and understand everything about scaffolding and temporary works so nobody could argue with me.

What part of your job do you like the most?

I love working out technical problems for my clients, especially those which need a quick solution/action, and demonstrate that everything is possible, although sometimes they don’t make sense financially.

What part of your job do you hate?

Dealing with Structural Engineers that lack what, for me, is the principal foundation of temporary works design: Common Sense.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I like sports: I go to the gym 3-4 times per week, and I like running. I also enjoy going out and having fun with my friends and family.

I like to do trading (Stock exchange, Forex…) too.

Football team?

I support Real Madrid. I also like to watch the Spanish national football team at the stadium as often as possible.
